Father’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate Dad than by giving him an adventure of a lifetime. I truly think there is nothing better than giving a book as a gift. 1. “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien
What better book to give Dad than a classic adventure tale? “The Hobbit” is one of my favorite books because of the simple joy it encapsulates. Bilbo, a hobbit who has never know fun and friendship, is invited to go on the adventure of a lifetime. It involves dwarves, dragons, goblins, and more fantastic creatures than your mind can imagine. It’s a true adventure anyone can enjoy at any age — The perfect adventure to share with your dad.

2. “Fight Club” by Chuck Palahniuk
The first rule of fight club? Don’t talk about fight club. Palahniuk’s psychological satire is told from the perspective of an unknown narrator who lives a frustrating, mundane life until he meets the guy who lives life on the edge, Tyler Durden. Durden introduces the narrator to a secret fight club that acts a kind of therapy for those involved. Father’s are sure to love this classic that comments on masculinity, identity, class, and so much more.

3. “Moneyball” by Michael Lewis
What dad doesn’t love baseball? (Probably mine, but that’s okay, he’s more of a NASCAR guy.) “Moneyball” features the Oakland A’s, a poor, failing MLB team that finds success through the use of analytical, evidence-based metrics. This true underdog story will leave any dad cheering for this baseball team.

4. “A History of the World in Six Glasses” by Tom Standage
A little unconventional, but any history buff is going to love this read. Standage gives every reader of this book a succinct wrap-up of history through the evolution of drink. From the invention of beer in the stone age to our modern drink of choice, Coke, Standage covers it all. This interesting perspective on history will leave any dad turning the pages.

5. “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury
Now it’s time for one of my favorites. Bradburys, “Fahrenheit 451” is a classic science-fiction novel that should be on any dad’s shelf. Set in a dystopian society where it’s illegal to own books and any books found are burned, “Fahrenheit 451” examines themes of censorship and individuality. This classic book (that runs under 200 pages) will give you and your dad something great to discuss once you both turn the last page.
